How to start being happy

Wow! The response to my last blog (“when you feel unneeded”) had the biggest response of any blog I’ve ever written! (If you missed it, check it out here).

So many of you emailed me to let me know my words had resonated with you – in fact, dozens of you clicked the link I’d provided to an article about building emotional support in your life. 

I want you to know that I count it as such a privilege to send these love-filled missives to your inbox every other week (you can sign up below this blog to receive these messages via email if you aren’t already).

The reason I’m so transparent in my blogs is because I want to be real with people and discuss how I’m overcoming, how I’m learning, how I’m making mistakes even – all toward the benefit of helping you live your most fulfilling life possible. 

As you may remember, last time I talked about the importance of adding more moments of happiness into your life. I’m happy to report that to date, I have already attended two painting classes and one writing workshop. I have another painting class coming up in two weeks, a cooking class at the end of the month, and another writing workshop in mid-June! 

Here I am getting my ‘Van Gogh’ on:

Funny aside: I used to want to be a painter when I was 6 or 7 years old. But when my art teacher in elementary school told us about how Van Gogh cut his own ear off, something got lost in translation and I thought that to be an artist, you had to cut your ear off, too. True story! I’m happy to report that both of my ears are still intact.

Moving along…adding activities to my week has been nothing short of awesome. It gives me things to look forward to, it surrounds me with others so I feel connected to a greater whole, it gives me something new to experience, and it’s just fun!

So if you’re feeling lonely, empty, bored, unfulfilled, unhappy, unsupported, etc…I want to encourage you to create happiness for yourself, as I discussed in my last blog. I know it can be scary to put yourself out there and dip your toe in the water, but you just have to keep trying until you find something that fits. 

Here’s a resource I absolutely love: – this is a listing of clubs and meet up’s all over the world! You can find anything on here. Book clubs, arts and crafts clubs, play groups for young mothers, spiritual gatherings, game nights, traveling groups, exercise groups, groups for dog lovers, groups for foodies, etc.  

Give it a try. You’re bound to find something you love, especially considering that there are nearly a quarter million groups on the website across 181 countries!

Go after the things that bring you happiness, my dear friend. This life is meant to be enjoyed, and I want yours to shine like a star in the universe.
